I'm gonna throw my opinion in the ring, because I've played with groups both good and bad... and most people I've PUGed with have been courteous, reasonably effective (some were obviously still learning, but the bulk are at least useful), and sometimes quite a bit of fun to game with. I've also had some people drop out in mid-mission, which can be really frustrating.. but then, my build (W/E, Adrenal skills and Fire for crowd control) is specifically designed to be viable against multiple PvE enemies, so it's possible to pick up the slack. Attitude is another thing entirely.. For every group I've played in that is courteous and help each other out (and I played with a wonderful PUG last night), there's another that says things like "OMG ur lv 5 WTF dood, don't try this mission again" (aimed at a R/Mo who was obviously a new player.. yeesh). My pet peeve, and one that's easily solved while picking up a group if you remember, is that NOBODY seems to bring a rez signet. With monks being tough to find and most W/Mo completely neglecting to stock up on healing... eh, kinda annoying. I'm guilty of this myself, because I keep forgetting, so I DO understand... but I kick myself every time so I think I'll write it on my hand or something.

That said, I like the henches as well. I prefer to do missions with other people, but if I'm just adventuring out in the countryside, questing or hunting, I'll tend to go with henches instead of players... for no real reason other than I like to take my time, admire the scenery, etc.

Not to mention, it's ok to mix.. If you can only find one other person who you want to adventure with, by all means, grab a hench to make up the difference. Can't find a monk? Grab the henchmonk. Simple.

Augy, your guild sounds exactly like what I need... but I'm only in if the cape is pretty I'll try to find you online once I figure out how that part of the interface works.. I'm under the name Amakar Viyali, W/E12... still in Post-Sear Ascalon, but getting close to Yak's bend.

A traveler left a city, and walked many miles until he came to the gates of another city. There was an old man sitting there, so the traveler asked him, "Old man, what are the people like in this city?". The old man replied, "Tell me, what were the people like in the city from which you have come?". The traveler replied, "Oh, they were wonderful, very friendly, and I enjoyed my time there very much". The old man said, "You will find them the same here".

Some days later, another traveler left the same city that the first traveler had left, and walked many miles until he came to the gates of the same city, and the same old man was sitting there. So this new traveler asked him, "Old man, what are the people like in this city?". The old man replied, "Tell me, what were the people like in the city from which you have come?". The traveler replied, "They were a horrid bunch, rude and unpleasant in every way, and I could not wait to be rid of them". The old man said, "You will find them the same here".

I see a lot of sane pleas for fun groups here, so I'll throw in my two cents.

If you are interested (and adult), and you're looking for a group of team players, drop me a line ingame. My little group has been playing together for a long time. We play on voicecom, and we work tightly as a team.

I will put in a word of caution though - here's the charter I wrote up for our WoW guild (the Merry Men of Azeroth, now we are here as the The Merry Men of Ascalon ). Please read this over before you send me a tell.

http://wow.erhohung.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=13

We are *always* friendly to lucid, competent players. We are *not* friendly to fools. If you are a serious player, and you like to push your play of the game with a tight team, come talk to me and I'll get you into our groups. We're all just learning the game now, so this is a good time to get involved.

Hope this helps some of the lonely soloers out there, we might just be the warped family you're looking for.

In other words, do what you're told, when you're told, never complain, and never EVER, under ANY stretch of the imagination, suggest a different tactic in mid stride!

I hear the imperial march playing

No, not at all. We don't even have a leader, much less a set of battle plans that anyone adheres to. On the contrary, we usually have at least someone in the party actively attempting to get everyone killed by doing some ridiculous :P The fun part is coming out alive

And perchance how far is that?
I never said you 'can't get through the first half of the game with henchmen', I clearly stated you couldn't get through the entire game, particularly the end-game.

So, my dear friend, read what is written, not how you want it to be written.
(I'd hate to see how 'altered' your reality is if you can create words in a post by someone else)

If you see this cape:

You will know you can ask a question or get a meaningful response. I, Jin Yimou, vow to make a guild of only nice, mature people who don't speak l33t.

I'm attempting to start a casual gaming guild, but so far I have a huge group of one in it. If anyone wants to help get my guild going contact grant miller in game. Heh at least I don't have dozens of people asking me if I want to join a guild.

Ok well i'm only 14, so maybe that changes my perspective, but I haven't actually had many problems with people in the group not being so great. Generally, the people I end up grouping up with are fine. I admit there is the occasional group that just doesn't work. But there are also those groups where, as one person put it earlyer, everything just clicks, so in my opinion, it balances out. I also find that when people ask questions, and i answer them, they say thank you 80% of the time, and the 20% that they don't, I don't really mind. Its not like i just gave them a perfect dragon sword. I didn't even really go out of my way to help them, so it doesn't really matter to me anyways when/if they say thank you. I've played a couple betas, as well as playing in the E34E event, and i find that generally, ur views on teens seem a bit biased. I agree that most of the people spamming I PWNED U! NUB! and generally mentioning the word l33t are adolecents, but my experiance hasn't been that bad. I trade often, but i rarely see much problem with the whole thank you thing. the only instance anyone has really been simply annoying is earlyer today, in lions arch, someone wasn't using the trading channel, and i politely asked them to use the trading channel for buying and selling. They called me a noob, and continued advertising in the local channel. The biggest diffrences that I've noticed are much more swearing, to the point where its annoying, and more people asking questions. The first group of people should just be told to grow up. The chat filter doesn't help at all as its not hard to figure out what was said. With the second group, just explain the answers, and ask them to pass on the answers to anyone asking the same question. After a while, the less experianced "noobs" will be educated, and will understand that game. The community will only get better...

On a small note about online communities. They are what they are.

Impoliteness breeds impoliteness and the opposite holds true as well. There is no real consistency to it other than that. I've found more times than not by just simply maintaining, at worse, an even disposition with everyone I come across, my "bad" experiences with people are not nearly as common as the "good".

The point is if you let the degenerative attention seeking types aggravate you to a point of lashing out or turning off from the rest of the community completely, you are only supporting that kind of behavior in the long run.

I'm still in pre-searing ascalon, and i've only had to bother with grouping for trips into tthe northlands. Even grouping with one other person has had verying expereinces; people who don't talk with you and run off to explore on their own; others who team up with you properly and let you take charr out for some nice items

i must admit that while i would like to consider mself a mature and responsible player, at times i've had to bail out half way into something, or provided less than helpful responses, or disappeared into another area halfway through a conversation (although i thought the other person had disappeared).

I just hit level 10 last night and i intend to go post-searing after some more flower hunting for gwen although i'm gonna give up soon because i'm losing patience so if anyone wants to do some post-searing quests with a necro/elem, Unspoken Sorrow, i'm up for it...

I have to butt in and have my say here.. heh (seems more appropriate than making my own thread anyways)..

I have to agree, I tend to play solo or at least try to - and what just happened to me today was a classic example for me why I do. Got into a group, just to do the starting rez signet ring.. and ended up going a bit further - problem was the other person hardly ever spoke even when there was no monsters around and all was needed/asked for was a short reply (like yes/no for instance).

I admit I wasn't the biggest help in fights. LOL miss-timed spells and such, but heck - I'm new and just trying and I hardly EVER get in a group (well, might help if I got past pre-searing at some point.. LOL) and so I know I'm not brilliant on party play or anything. But at least if I ask something, I'd expect some form of answer!

And hey, I'm always willing to learn if I'm offered suggestions on how to better work in a group.. but that would actually involve.. A) being in a group & B) the group actually bothering to talk to me :P

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the fact that they were willing to help me with that 1 quest at the start. But not talking really made me feel like they were an AI NPC (admittedly, with better AI than me.. LOL!!!).

But seriously - this is why I tend to play solo in most/all online games I play - simply because if I'm party'ing/group'ing with ppl I do expect to get some feedback on comments or chat or such :P Heck, I always try and make sure I talk when not actively fighting or such.. and still usually get noooooo response. Might as well play with npc henchmen.. at least I'll know what to expect from them... and get the exact same silent treatment :P

I guess a big thing that puts ppl off is I'm on dial-up & no teamspeak or anything like that ;/ Yeah, I know that’s a problem.. and I always warn ppl about that... whenever I say it.. then no-one wants to know me.. *shrugs* oh wells, guess I'll see how far I can get playing Hench Wars! hahahahaha! One of these days I'll get adsl/cable and that won't be an issue... but by then I might just be too used to playing Hench Wars .. hehehehe

So for me, it's not idiot ppl in groups putting me off (since I'm the idiot person in the group.. hahaha.. at least till I get some help.. hahahha).. or ppl being wankers or drongo's or such. Heck, haven't seen much general chat spammmage yet & only had 1 incident of "party request" spammage.. but my history of playing solo continues because I just can't stand playing multiple with ppl who don't bother to talk.. why play multiplayer games if your not going to talk to anyone?
